What BackupTempo collects
Nothing. BackupTempo contains no analytics, no telemetry, no tracking, and no third-party services. It makes no network connections except:
- Update checks (Sparkle framework) against
backuptempo.app, which transmit only the app version being checked. You can disable automatic update checks in Settings.
What stays on your Mac
Everything the app knows lives locally and never leaves your machine:
- Your backup schedule, blackout windows, and conditions (stored in macOS user defaults).
- The activity log (
~/Library/Logs/BackupTempo.log) — a plain-text record of scheduling decisions you can read, share, or delete at any time. - Backup health statistics, read from macOS's own Time Machine records.
BackupTempo never reads the contents of your files or backups — only Time Machine's scheduling and bookkeeping metadata.
Crash reports
If BackupTempo crashes, you may choose to email us the crash report. This is entirely opt-in and manual: the app shows you the report file, and nothing is sent unless you send it. Crash reports contain technical stack traces; we use them only to fix bugs and delete them afterwards.
