Conditions defer a scheduled backup while something more important is happening. When a backup comes due, BackupTempo checks your enabled conditions; if any is active, it waits and rechecks (every 1–15 minutes, your choice), showing why in the menu. Back Up Now always runs immediately — conditions never block a manual backup.
Available conditions
- Meetings & recording — defer while the camera or microphone is in use, or the screen is being shared. Your backup will never bog down a video call or a recording session. (In-app screen sharing, as in Zoom, is caught via the microphone; system-level sharing is detected directly.)
- Apps — defer while chosen applications are running (video editors, DAWs, games…).
- Mac is busy — defer while processor load is high, with three sensitivity levels down to "back up only when nearly idle."
- Power — only on the power adapter, not below a chosen battery level, not in Low Power Mode. (Desktops pass these automatically.)
- Backup disk connected — wait until the destination disk is present.
The ceiling: backups can't starve
Deferral has a hard limit (Maximum wait, 1–12 hours, default 4). When it's reached, the backup runs even if conditions still object — a busy week can delay a backup, but nothing can postpone it forever. The menu shows the "runs by" time whenever a backup is waiting, with a Dismiss button if you'd rather skip to the next occurrence.
